Yahoo Mail Slowdown - Possible Fix

Yahoo Mail’s been very slow for me the last 2 days.

To make it worse, I kept getting an IE dialog box that says the current security settings doesn’t allow an ActiveX control to be installed.

It turns out that IE was trying to download the ocget.dll control whenever I am at Yahoo Mail.

The Microsoft KB article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323207/ has details. What I did to fix the problem was to set the registry’s CodeBaseSearchPath value to CODEBASE.

After doing that, the speed and error message problems went away. But I have no idea why ocget.dll is necessary for Yahoo Mail.

Hope this helps other people with the same problem. It is not necessary to tinker with IE’s security settings.
